ANIMAL aims to thrust the issue of violence towards women into the public arena by presenting a work which explores the cycle of violence and the circumstances some are born into, examining how these deeply embedded patterns can change or be broken.
Alongside the show Influx are providing self-defence classes run by lifetime martial artist specialist Andre Conate from The Self Defence Hub. The aim of these classes is to provide an opportunity for people to empower themselves with the necessary skills to defend themselves against violence.
Offered at a heavily discounted rate of $10, Andre’s classes will cover reaction and response, wrist grab escapes, techniques on how to avoid dangerous situations, strangulation defence and wall escape.
Andre will run these classes in a safe and supportive environment at the Christ Church Community Centre next to Theatre Works (14 Acland Street) for the following sessions:
Sunday 20th November 2016 – 3pm to 4pm
Friday 25th November 2016 – 5pm to 6pm
Sunday 27th November 2016 – 3pm to 4pm
Payment for the class can be made by cash on the day. Bookings to classes are compulsory – simply fill out the form below indicating which class (or classes – you are welcome to attend more than one!) to reserve your spot.
